Gardai arrest two young women in connection with death of Dublin man

Gardai investigating the assault and subsequent death of a man in Temple Bar have arrested two young women.

Officers probing the death of Dublin man Gareth O'Connor today detained two women in their early 20s in connection with the investigation.
Mr O'Connor, a father-of-three from  Harelawn Avenue in Clondalkin,, was hospitalised following a violent attack at Cow's Lane in Temple Bar. 
He was socialising with a group of friends, including his brother and nephew, when they were attacked by another group at approximately 8.45pm last Thursday. 
The 27-year-old passed away at about 5.30pm on Friday, almost 24 hours after being attacked.
The women were detained at Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 after being arrested earlier this afternoon. 
One of the women has been released from Garda custody without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). 
The second woman remains in Garda custody.
Four people who were being held in connection with the attack were released without charge on Friday and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal to any persons who may have witnessed the incident or were in the vicinity of Cow’s Lane to come forward.
