Two-year-old girl dies, two other children seriously injured in crash

A two-year-old girl died and two other children were injured when a car crashed into a wall and landed on its roof.

Police said the 28-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the crash near the village of Horton in Dorset yesterday.

Officers were called to reports of a "serious road traffic collision" at 9.20pm.

A blue MG car carrying five people left the road and collided with a wall before overturning, Dorset Police said.

The girl who died, who has not been named.

A nine-year-old boy suffered "serious and potentially life-threatening injuries" and was transferred to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

A third child, an 11-year-old boy, suffered bruising and was taken to Poole Hospital.

The driver of the car and a 28-year-old female passenger were treated for minor injuries and shock.

Inspector Matt Butler, of Dorset Police's traffic unit, said: "This was a tragic incident and specially-trained family liaison officers are supporting the family at this difficult time.”

The two-year-old's next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.
