Two pensioners assaulted during violent car theft in Dublin

Gardai in Clontarf investigating a robbery which occurred in Clontarf yesterday have arrested a 25-year-old man.

The incident occurred at approximately 12.30pm yesterday afternoon when the suspect walked onto the driveway of a house on Malahide Road and assaulted a man in his 70s and took his car keys.

A passerby, also in his 70s, went to the aid of the injured party and he was also assaulted.

The suspect left the scene in the first man's car.

Both injured pensioners were treated at scene by DFB and the second injured man was taken to the Mater Hospital for further treatment.

He has since been released.

As a result of investigations carried out by Gardai from Clontarf and Ballymun assisted by the Emergency Response Unit, a house at Dolmen Court, Ballymun was searched and a 25-year-old man was arrested.

He is currently being detained at Clontarf Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

The car car was also located in Ballymun.
