Dublin Fire Brigade received a 'huge amount of calls' as two men needed to be rescued from the River Liffey during rush hour this evening.

The incident happened at 5:45pm at the Frank Sherwin Bridge near Heuston Station in Dublin City Centre.

Dublin Fire Brigade and Gardaí were contacted after a man ended up in the water after walking along the external side of the bridge.

The Gardaí have confirmed a second man had to be rescued after getting into trouble attempting to save the first person.

Both men were removed from the water and were able to walk away without any injuries.

The bridge was closed for a short time, but has since been reopened.
