Two men are receiving treatment in hospital after receiving burns from molten plastic at an engineering plant in the Shannon Industrial Estate.

An explosion occurred while the two men, aged 49 and 44, were working on a machine at Thormac Engineering – a custom plastic manufacturer - just after 3pm yesterday afternoon.

The pair suffered severe burns to their heads and hands and were taken to the Irish Coast Guard base at Shannon Airport by ambulance, before being airlifted to Cork University Hospital.
