Two injured, one seriously, as gardai hunt for hit-and-run driver

Two people were injured, one seriously, after a hit-and-run incident in Carlow yesterday.

According to gardai at around 8.20pm last night two pedestrians were injured when they were struck by a 4x4 vehicle while out walking on a local road in the Urglin Rutland area of Carlow Town.

One of the walkers, a 59-year-old man, was seriously injured while the second, a 23-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.

They were both taken by ambulance to St. Luke's General Hospital, Kilkenny where their injuries are described as non life threatening.

However, the driver of the vehicle failed to remain at the scene so investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
