Two British men killed in alpine road crash

Two British men in their twenties have died after their car tumbled nearly 1,000ft down steep terrain after breaking through a guard rail on an alpine road.

Police spokeswoman Eva Wenzl said the accident apparently occurred as the two were racing another car on a stretch of road more than 8,000ft above sea level.

Police say one of the men was 22 and the other 25. They have not yet been identified.

They lost control of their car near the mountain village of Fusch, 60 miles east of Innsbruck.

Police say the other car's driver initially kept driving, but they have now been identified.
