Two men have been apprehended by gardai after an attempted knife-point robbery this morning at a convenience store which has been the subject of a string of thefts of late.

The Mace shop in Palmerstown in west Dublin was raided by a man holding a knife at around 8.40am.

It is believed he threatened staff with the weapon but was unsuccessful in stealing any money and ran out of the shop on the Manor Road to a waiting car, which sped away from the scene.

Gardai intercepted the two men an hour later and are holding them for questioning.
