Two men have been arrested by gardai after a robbery at a fast food outlet in Tallaght where a chainsaw was used to threaten staff.

At approximately 12.20am two men entered a chipper at Old Bawn Shopping Centre carrying a chainsaw, which was running.

They tore the cash register from the counter while threatening terrified staff and left the takeaway.

They then headed in the direction of Bohernabreena Road.

Gardai from Rathfarnham and Tallaght stations arrived soon after and carried out a search of the area.

They later arrested two men aged 23 and 40, who were taken to Tallaght Garda Station.

The money taken and the cash register were recovered later.
