Train derails in India killing 26

A passenger train has derailed in northern India, killing at least 26 people, police said.

Rescue workers used heavy duty cutters to rip apart the wreckage to find people feared to be trapped.

Ram Murath Yadav, a police official at the site of the accident near Bachhrawan village in Uttar Pradesh state, said rescue workers had pulled out 26 bodies. Mr Yadav said rescue efforts are focused on bringing trapped people out alive.

The cause of the derailment is not yet known
