Tragic teen Ana Hick laid to rest

The devastated parents of tragic teenager Ana Hick laid their daughter to rest today following a service at the Church of the Assumption in in Dalkey.

Elga Hick told mourners her daughter came "smashing into my life like a comet".

In her eloquent and poignant tribute to her 18-year-old daughter, Elga told the hushed congregation they were like "salt and pepper".

"Ana was larger than life. She came smashing into Tim's and my life like a comet, and she was welcomed immediately into our lives," she said.

"She lit up everyone's lives from the time she was a baby she commanded respect and attention. When she walked into a room you knew she was there, with her big eyes, her big smile, her hands in the air," she said.

"She was so talented and she had been studying in the Irish Film Academy. Everything was in place for her. From the second she was born we were like salt and pepper we went together so well," she added.

We loved to sing in the car, half the videos I won't show you," Elga said to laughter.

"I got a Renault Scenic years ago and from the second we got into it Disney and Eminem was playing, and we laughed and we sang. I am so glad I did it. I have those memories to last me a lifetime now," she said with pride.

"She was beautiful and I loved her so much," she added.

"I want to thank everybody for their love and support. It's what is keeping us going through this day and making it the best memory I can have of Ana," she said.

She also thanked everybody in the Mater Hospital who took care of her daughter after she had collapsed, never to wake.

Earlier in the mass, Fr Patrick Devitt told mourners Ana was a "caring and loving girl", talented, popular and full of life.

"Her short life was like a comet that lit up the sky and then left us," he said.

Ana, who would have celebrated her 19th birthday yesterday and graduated from Loreto College in Dalkey last year,, collapsed outside a nightclub in Dublin's north city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

She was rushed to the Mater Hospital, but sadly passed away on Sunday evening.

The aspiring actress was the only daughter of Elga Hick - her father Tim flew home from the US over the weekend to say a final farewell to his daughter.

Gardai are investigating the teenager's sudden death. They are currently awaiting results from toxicology tests.
