Three people have been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident at a Galway courthouse this morning.

Two brothers are currently being treated in hospital for stab wounds following the attack at Galway District Court.

The two victims, aged just 17 and 20, received stab wounds to their back and arm. They have been taken to nearby University College Hospital for treatment.

The older victim received a serious stab wound to his back while the teen was wounded in the arm. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Three other men, who are also believed to be related, have been arrested and taken to Millstreet Garda Station.

It is believed the men were not scheduled to appear before the court but were there in a supportive capacity.

Gardai believe the incident is in relation to an ongoing feud between families in the city.

Officers who were present at the courthouse were able to bring the situation under control and shortly after arrested a man outside the building.

A knife recovered at the scene a short time later is being linked to the attack.
