Three jailed for duct taping naked Irishman into wheelie bin and leaving it in forest
Three people have been jailed for a total of nine years for duct-taping a naked party-goer in a wheelie bin which was then left in a remote wooded area.
The court heard victim Adam Robinson (22) was left "highly traumatised" by the ordeal, and has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder since the incident in September, 2013.
Two of the accused, Terry Lau (27) and Roddy Patterson (27), admitted causing him actual bodily harm while Paula Wilson (22) pleaded guilty to "aiding and abetting, counselling or procuring" his false imprisonment.
Lau and Patterson were each handed three and a half year sentences and Wilson was given a two-year sentence.
They were told by the Judge they will serve half of their sentences in prison with the remaining half on license.
Due to time already served it is believed the trio will be free some time in the near future.
The court heard that having been seriously assaulted at a drink and drugs fuelled party in the town, Mr Robinson was dumped into a large bin in a wooded area at Sentry Hill and it was then taped shut on a scorching hot day.
He was eventually freed by a dog walker and taken to hospital for treatment.
All four were under the influence of drugs and alcohol, the court heard, and Robinson said he couldn't remember exactly how he ended up trapped in the bin.
However, the court heard Lau had bought industrial tape in a shop which was used to secure the bin shut.
It was also heard that the bin was placed against a tree and if it wasn't found Mr Robinson may have perished.
The young man was found in a disorientated state, sweating and clearly distressed. He now suffers psychologically from post-traumatic stress and has trouble sleeping.
