Three arrested in connection with post office robbery

Three men were following an armed robbery of a post office in Clogherhead, Co. Louth today.

Three men, one of which was carrying a sawn-off shotgun, entered a post office at 11:45am, threatened staff and demanded money.

As they were leaving they were confronted by gardai.

A struggle ensued and a 25-year-old man was arrested by Gardai attached to the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

A sawn-off shotgun and the proceeds of the robbery were also recovered.

With the assistance of local Gardai and the Regional Support Unit, two further men, aged 24 and 36 years, were arrested.

The three males are currently being detained at Dundalk and Drogheda Garda stations under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to the incident, particularly anyone who was in the supermarket/post office between 11am and 12 mid-day. Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200
