A video posted on messaging service WhatsApp shows the moment terrified passengers were evacuated from Emirates Flight EK521 after it crash-landed at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday.

The footage captures the chaos of the evacuation, as passengers shout and children scream as they try to evacuate the plane.

Unbelievably, some passengers are seen pulling bags from overhead lockers before being ordered by cabin crew to drop their belongings.

Cabin crew on board can be heard shouting, "Leave your bags and jump down the slide".

After sliding onto the tarmac, the camera catches sight of flames around the plane's engine before the video ends.

Other footage from the crash-landing shows flames consuming the plane, which later exploded, halting flights for hours at the world's third-busiest airport.

The accident happened around 12:45pm local time as Flight EK521 was arriving from the southern Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram.

The Boeing 777-300 was carrying 282 passengers and 18 crew members from 20 different countries, according to the airline. Those onboard included 226 Indians, 24 Britons, 11 Emiratis, and six each from the United States and Saudi Arabia.

Emirates, the flight operator, confirmed yesterday that four Irish individuals were among the 282 passengers.

While all 300 people aboard survived, one firefighter died battling the blaze.
