Tensions run high in Wicklow as anti-water protesters arrested

Tensions were high in Wicklow this morning as eight anti water demonstrators were arrested during a protest.

Footage circulating online shows gardai taking protesters into custody in the Glebemount estate.

The demonstration began at 6am and the arrests were made after 8am.

Four of the protesters were taken to Bray garda station while four more were brought to Wicklow station.

All eight people have been released without charge.

Protesters can be heard chanting "Shame on you" at the gardai right before the arrests were made.

Accusations have been made that officers acted in a "heavy handed" manner.

The gardai have denied these claims.
