Tens of thousands of households without power thanks to Storm Barney
ESB have just confirmed that 45,000 households are without electricity across the country this evening.
In a statement on their website, ESB Networks has said:
At 4.45pm there are 45,000 customers without electricity due to faults caused by gale force winds.
The main areas affected are: Tullamore, Loughrea, Athone, Ennis, Tralee, Limerick, Killarney, NewCastlewest, Killkenny, Clonmel, Roscrea, Bray and Arklow.
ESB Networks have dispatched crews to these areas and we are working to restore supply as quickly as possible.
Estimated restoration times, when available, will be updated on PowerCheck.
With winds already clocking over 120kph in places this afternoon, and with the full extent of Storm Barney still to hit, the number of homes without power is sure to increase.
Earlier, Dawson Street in Dublin was closed to traffic and pedestrians over safety concerns about scaffolding on the road while trees are being reported as down all over the country.
Gardai are warning motorists to take care and even issued footage of a patrol car getting hit with a falling tree branch.
