Teenage girl allegedly raped in Dublin park
Gardai are investigating the suspected rape of a 15-year-old girl.
Reports indicate that the alleged incident occurred over the weekend at Mount Pleasant Park in Ranelagh.
The girl was examined at the Sexual Assault Unit at the Rotunda Hospital after she presented herself to officers at Rathmines garda station at 1am on Sunday morning.
Medical tests have revealed that the girl “definitively did” have a sexual encounter.
The teen is reported to be “extremely distraught” and the Irish Daily Mail reports that gardai have “strong reasons to believe” that the girl knew her alleged attacker.
The girl has not told officers the name of her attacker but it is hoped that today’s re-interview with the assistance of a specialist child interviewer will shed some light on the case.
The enquiry is at an “early stage” and the claim is being “thoroughly investigated”, said a garda source.
The park, which is not well covered by CCTV, was sealed off by gardai on Sunday
