A man has been arrested after a spate of crimes in Galway overnight – including an incident where a teenager was stabbed.

Gardai were alerted after a 38-year-old man contacted them to say he had been threatened by a man with a knife on the Headford Road and around 2am this morning.

Soon after, the gardai received another call from two young men who had been robbed at knifepoint at the corner of Headford Road.

They had their wallets and mobile phones taken by the assailant, who left heading in the direction of Wood Quay.

Not long after that they received reports that a teenager had been stabbed.

The teen was taken to University College Hospital in Galway to be treated for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

Gardai soon swooped on a man in Eyre Square who fitted the description given to them by numerous witnesses at around 3am.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who can help them with their enquiries to contact them on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station
