A teenager was arrested after briefly stealing an ambulance in Dublin's city centre this morning.

According to gardai the male, in his late teens, briefly sat into the vehicle and moved it forward before it rolled to a halt a short distance later on Mountjoy Street in Dublin's north inner city.

The crew of the ambulance are believed to have been dealing with a call-out when the alleged incident occurred.

Gardai have confirmed that the man was taken to Mountjoy Garda Station where he was charged with the unauthorised taking of a vehicle under the Road Traffic Act.

He was then released and is due to appear in court at a future date.
