TD claims that guns can be hired on Dublin streets for just €200
Independent TD Noel Grealish has claimed that guns can be hired on the streets of Dublin for as little as €200 for a handgun.
The Galway West TD was grilling Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan as she appeared in front of Senators and TDs at Leinster House at a meeting of the Justice Committee.
Mr Grealish put it to the Commissioner that he had heard there was a 'gun for hire' culture in the capital and that handguns could be hired for as little as €200, while an Uzi machine gun was available for €500 a day.
In reply, Commissioner O'Sullivan said she was not aware of this though she did say that she was aware that guns were available.

Speaking to the Sunday World this afternoon, Mr Grealish said that a 'very reliable source' told him that dissident Republicans were supplying the guns for hire in the inner city, and that the guns were available for one, or a number of, days.
Mr Grealish also told us that he was going to raise the matter in the Dail with the Minister for Justice and write to the Garda Commissioner to formally raise his concerns over the matter
He added he was 'not happy' with the Commissioner's reply to the question, especially in light of recent suspected activity by dissident groups.
