Gardai say the man has been released without charge

Gardai have released a suspect in the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in the capital.

The suspect was released after the girl came forward alleging she was raped at a park in Dublin.

The alleged sex attack occurred at Mount Pleasant Park in Ranelagh at approximately 1am on Sunday, August 2.

After the girl reported the alleged attack Gardai arrested a suspect last week. He was taken to Rathmines Garda Station for questioning before he was released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The girl was examined at the Sexual Assault Unit in the Rotunda after she reported the alleged assault to authorities. She was found to have experienced some sort of sexual encounter.

She is said to be traumatised by the incident involving the man, who is believed to be known to her.

Forensic investigators examined the area in the popular park after the complaint was made to Gardai.
