There is speculation one of Ulster's main political leaders could be about to step down.

Alliance party leader, David Ford, is rumoured to be about to resign within the next few days.

Mr Ford was one of the prime architects of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

But political circles in Belfast today were buzzing with reports that he will resign both as Alliance party leader and as a Stormont MLA within the next few days.

The speculation at Stormont is that he has been offered a seat in the House of Lords in Westminster and he has accepted.

Mr Ford has been under pressure recently over cuts in legal aid and a huge backlog of court cases because of decisions he has taken as Minister of Justice at Stormont.

It is understood that he may stand down and announce that he is taking his seat as a Peer in the House of Lords as early as this Thursday.
