Status yellow weather warnings issued by Met Eireann for Friday

Three status yellow wind warnings have been issued to seven counties across the country.

The warnings were put in place by Met Eireann yesterday evening and come into effect today.

Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Mayo, Sligo , Leitrim and Clare are the counties advised to be on alert.

Winds will increase with gusts of up to 100km/h for the Connacht counties and the warning is in place from 10am until 6pm this evening.

In Clare and Kerry, gusts are expected to reach 90km/h.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann says Donegal will be the county worst affected as winds will be strongest off the Northwest coast.

The yellow status warning will remain in place there until 9pm tonight.

Elsewhere, rain will begin to clear eastwards later in the day and strong south winds will start to moderate, with highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees.

Tonight will be generally dry with long clear spells and lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.
