Status Orange weather alert in effect

Met Eireann have issued a Status Orange weather alert predicting winds of 130kph for Connacht, Donegal and Clare.

“Very windy today with strong to gale force westerly winds and severe gusts in the west and north. There will be scattered heavy showers of rain or hail, with the risk of sleet or snow on higher ground and some thundery downpours likely in the north and northwest. Cold with top temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.”

These gale force winds are expected to result in large waves in coastal regions, heights of which the country has rarely seen before. Coastal regions are expected to see the most adverse conditions in the following days.
