Six people hospitalised following collision this morning
Six people have been hospitalised following a single-car crash in Co Cavan early this morning.
The incident occurred at 5.30am in the area of Rantavan in Mullagh, Co Cavan, gardaí confirmed to Independent.ie.
Six people were in the vehicle which crashed into a fence. It is understood the occupants of the car were brought to Cavan Hospital, Mater Hospital in Dublin and Blanchardstown Hospital in Dublin.
The extent of their injuries is yet unknown and their ages have not yet been confirmed. The area is located in south Cavan, close to the Meath border.
In a separate collision, a 17-year-old teenager was killed when the car in which he was driving hit a fence in Ballivor in Co Meath. The incident occurred on Friday.
Tributes have since been paid to the young man, named locally as Evan Brennan.
Mr Brennan was from Summerhill, Co Meath and was an avid GAA player.
Local Fine Gael councillor, Joe Fox, said the community have been left devastated by the tragedy.
"He was a lovely person and was from a lovely family.
"He was very involved in the GAA and was a credit to his parents."
Cllr Fox said the whole community are reeling in shock.
"Everyone is shocked by this terrible tragedy. It's terrible and shocking.
"My condolences to the family."
