Six men barred from two counties after alleged assault at funeral
Six brothers have appeared in court in connection to an alleged assault at a funeral.
The men, from Donegal, were arrested in Ballyhaunis Co Mayo yesterday after an incident at the funeral of Martin 'Red Breast' McDonagh in the town.
They have been ordered not to enter Mayo until their next court hearing.
Thomas McDonagh (29) Michael and Johnny McDonagh, both aged 24, Patrick McDonagh (22), Eoin McDonagh (20) and Martin McDonagh; all with an address of The Big Isle, Manorcunningham, Co Donegal, were held at Castlebar and Claremorris garda stations overnight.
All six appeared at Castlebar District Court today where they each faced a single charge of assault causing harm at Abbey Quarter in Ballyhaunis on Monday, May 16.
The court heard that further charges may follow.
Judge Mary Devins granted the brothers bail subject to a number of conditions.
The men were ordered to stay out of Mayo and Clare. They were also ordered to surrender their passports, follow curfews and pay a bond of €500 each.
The case will be before the courts again in July.
