Shop robbed at knifepoint in Roscommon

Shocked staff at a shop in Roscommon were left shaken after a man robbed the premises at knifepoint on Saturday night, before being apprehended after he sped away in a car.

The 42-year-old man has been charged in connection with the robbery which happened at a shop in Cloontuskert at around 8.10pm on Saturday.

There were two staff members on duty at the time and the man threatened them with a knife before taking a small sum of cash.

No one was injured in the raid and the man left the scene in a grey car before being stopped by gardai near Longford.

The suspect appeared before a special sitting of Roscommon District Court yesterday evening.
