PICS: Shocking images show sliced-up face of Ciara Killeen's victim
Shocking pictures show the damage done to the face of Mary McCarthy by Ciara Killeen in a brutal nightclub glass attack.
Killeen, 32, of Hyde Road, Prospect, Limerick pleaded guilty in Ennis Circuit Court to the assault causing harm to Mary McCarthy at Queens nightclub, Abbey Street, Ennis, Co Clare, at 1.10am on November 1st 2015 contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
That charge can carry a five-year sentence but the judge said that if he jailed Killeen her children would be left without a mother or a father and this was part of his decision to hand down a two-and-a-half year suspended sentence.
Speaking outside court mum-of-five McCarthy gave her opinion on the verdict.
“I am not happy," she said. "She should have got jail. She glassed me in the face for nothing.”
Images published today after the conclusion of the trial show the wounds inflicted in the assault.
The injuries required 23 stitches and McCarthy said she nearly lost her eye in the incident.
