Body found in river during search for missing student

A team searching for a man who had been missing since New Year’s Day have found a body.

This is the second discovery of a body in Cork today, though the two are not believed to be linked.

The discovery was made in the River Lee in Cork city.

UCC student Colin Roynane was last seen alive on CCTV cameras near Welllington Bridge on the western side of Cork city around 6am on New Year’s Day.

The 31-year-old commerce student had been attending a New Year’s Eve party with friends in the College Road.

Teams had been searching the River Lee for the past three weeks.

A body was spotted floating in the river near the ESB power plant this morning.

The remains were removed to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem and formal identification.
