Search and rescue operation underway after car crashes into River Lee
A major search operation is underway for a car that entered River Lee in Cork city early this morning.
Crosshaven Coast Guard, gardaí, rescue helicopter 117 from Waterford and the fire service are at the scene at the Lee Rowing club.
A dive team has also been requested.
The Coast Guard said they received the call from gardaí just before 6am.
A member of the public saw the car sinking in high tides.
There is no information on the number of occupants at this time.
There have beena number of incidents at the scene, which is close to Pairc Ui Chaoimh GAA grounds, over the last number of years.
There are no barriers to prevent cars going into the deep waters. It is also a busy shipping channel
