RTÉ axe John Giles
RTÉ has dropped veteran soccer analyst John Giles from its panel for this Saturday’s crucial Euro 2016 qualifier between Ireland and Scotland.
The Star reports that station bosses last night confirmed that the 74-year-old will not appear alongside Liam Brady (59) and Eamon Dunphy (69) for the big match.
The broadcaster claimed that Giles’ omission was down to scheduling issues.
However The Star reports that the former Ireland manager was available to work for the game on Saturday night but was told that his services were not needed.
Fears are now growing that Giles appearances on the panel will be limited in the future.
Ex Ireland striker Richard Sadlier (36) will be taking his place instead.
Reports indicate that Giles’ omission has deeply upset his fellow analysts.
An RTE spokesman confirmed that presented Darragh Maloney will be joined by Dunphy, Brady and Sadlier.
