Rise in assault and sexual offences in 2015
New figures released the by Central Statistics Office show a rise in assault and sexual offences in 2015.
Sexual offences rose by 14 per cent over a 12-month period.
However, the homicide rate has dropped by 35% since 2014 with the number of murders falling from 50 to 37.
The number of sexual offences recorded rose to 2,262 with rape of a male or female offences increased by 12.5%.
Sexual assault (not aggravated) offences increased by 15.7%.
Threats to murder, assaults harassment and related offences rose to 13 per cent.
There were 28,407 recorded burglary and related offences recorded in the 12-month period.
Kidnapping related offences rose by 8.7 per cent to 138 while false imprisonment rates increased to 40 per cent to 77.
