A prisoner who escaped from custody has handed himself in to police.

Thomas Quinn, 30, was on remand at HMP Liverpool when he fled from Aintree University Hospital where he was receiving treatment for a hand injury.

He had been awaiting a court appearance for robbery offences.

But Greater Manchester Police confirmed the fugitive handed himself in on Saturday morning.

He had escaped from custody in the early hours of Thursday and there had been some suggestion he may have headed to Ireland as Quinn has ties here.
