Police investigate two attacks in Kilkeel overnight

The police are investigating after two incidents in Kilkeel, County Down, in which a car was attacked with a petrol bomb and an attempt was made to burn a house down.

The police are treating both attacks as arson.

At around 2.20am this morning police received a report that a car had been set on fire in Newry Street after it was hit with a petrol bomb. 

An hour late it was reported that an unoccupied house in Carn Gardens had been set on fire.

The suspected arsonists smashed the living room window before setting fire to a pile of rubbish in the middle of the floor

The NIFRS extinguished both of the blazes.

Detective Inspector Colin Patterson said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the Newry Street or Carn Gardens areas in the early hours of this morning, or who may have information about the incidents, to contact police in Kilkeel on 101.

“Alternatively, information can be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
