Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle on Christmas night

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred in Carlow on Christmas night

The fatal incident took place in Gorteengrone, Co Carlow (R448) last night at approximately 7.20pm.

A male pedestrian, 29 years, was struck by a vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at scene.

His body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem examination is to be arranged.

The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was uninjured.

The road remains closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who may have travelled the R448 Castledermot -Carlow Road, to contact Carlow Garda Station on 059-9136620 The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.

This incident means that two people died on Irish roads on Christmas Day.

On Christmas morning, a young man on a motorbike was killed on Cherry Orchard Avenue in Dublin after a collision with another motorcyclist.
