Gardaí are investigating an incident on the N11 close to Cabinteely village this afternoon that has claimed the life of a pedestrian.

The incident occurred on the Southbound carriageway of the N11 this afternoon, shortly before 1pm.

A female pedestrian, aged in her early 80s, was fatally injured after being struck by a car.

She was pronounced dead at scene.

Her body has been taken to Saint Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown.

A post mortem is to be arranged.

The N11 Southbound carriageway is currently closed at Cornelscourt to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Dun Laoghaire Garda Station on 01 6665000, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.

Sadly, this is the second pedestrian killed on our roads today as a woman in her 70s was struck by a lorry and killed in Tipperary earlier.
