With the ever-increasing concern regarding security on the Luas, we went behind the scenes to discover how the tram line and its affiliates ensured its passengers safety.

As part one of a mini-series by the Sunday World, we spent time with a security team on the ground, spoke with tram drivers and went behind the scenes at the Luas Central Control Room for an exclusive sneak-peek at what goes on behind closed doors. 

The Luas has been a massive success for Dublin city since its inception in 2004, and since extensions were carried out in 2009 and 2011, the Red Line now links the The Point and Saggart.

Despite the huge success of the tram line there remains a question around customer security and passenger safety, especially regarding the Red Line, on which crime is more prevalent. 

There has been a lot of media attention recently surrounding pick-pocket gangs on the Luas Red Line and many have been wondering: How safe are on the Luas?
