One man dead and an elderly woman is in critical condition following house fire

A man aged in his 60s has died and a woman in her 90s is in critical condition following a house fire which broke out on Sigurd Road in Stoneybatter, yesterday.

The alarm was raised just before 6:30pm last night.

Five units of Dublin Fire Brigade responded to the alarm and took two occupants from the house where paramedics fought to save their lives.

The man was taken to the Mater Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

A Dublin Fire Brigade spokesperson said the women was revived at the scene and rushed to James Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where she is in a critical condition and fighting for her life.

The fire has been extinguished and the scene has been preserved. Gardaí are investigating.
