One dead following horror M1 motorway smash

A man in his mid-40s was killed when the truck he was driving struck a van, collided with a roadside embankment and overturned on the M1 motorway today.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 12:45pm, took place in the southbound lane between junctions 11 (Monasterboice) and 10 (Drogheda North).

The man’s body has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem is to be arranged.

No other injuries have been reported.

A section of the M1 motorway remains closed to facilitate Emergency Services and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.
