A number of people have been injured in a suspected gas explosion at a restaurant in Cork.

It is understood several people have been hospitalised after the incident at a restaurant in Ballinspittle, west Cork.

The condition and number of those injured is not yet known. 

The area around the restaurant has been sealed off and emergency services are at the scene, RTE reported. 

Reports suggest that the establishment in question is Diva Boutique Café.

A number of fire engines and ambulances are at the scene. 

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are investigating.
