UPDATE: Cyclist dies after County Down crash

A cyclist has died after a crash with a car in Newtownards.

The 50-year-old male cyclist was killed after colliding with a Renault vehicle on the Newtownards - Bangor carriageway this morning.

The incident happened just before 6am beside the Somme Heritage Centre as the cyclist was heading Bangor bound. 

The man driving the car was not injured in the crash.  

Inspector David McClements is appealing for anyone who was travelling between Newtownards and Bangor this morning and who witnessed the collision to contact local police in Newtownards or the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 167 of 06/10/16.

The Newtownards to Bangor carriageway remains closed to Bangor bound traffic.
