A seven-year-old boy has been killed following a three-vehicle crash in Newtonabbey, Co Antrim.

The child, named by the BBC as Jackson Turner, was in a car that collided with two others.

Police said the collision, involving two Nissan cars and a Citroen, occurred at Old Carrick Road, Newtownabbey at about 6.30pm on Saturday evening.

The boy was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital but died several hours after the crash.

Seven others were injured in the horror smash.

The driver of the car in which he was travelling is also in the hospital and remains in a critical condition.

A four-year-old girl, also in the car, is also being treated but her injuries are thought to be less serious.

Five others from the other vehicles are also injured but none of them are thought to be in a serious condition.
