A rider has been killed at the North West 200.

Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, who was aged just 20, died after the incident that took place during the Supertwin race.

Racing for the day has been cancelled after the tragic accident.

The sad news was confirmed on the event's Facebook page.

On Thursday Motorcycle racing superstar Ryan Farquhar was seriously injured after colliding with another rider during the world famous bike racing event in Northern Ireland.

Farquhar collided with rider Dan Cooper last night on the third lap of the Supertwins race.

Cooper was taken to Coleraine hospital to be treated for shoulder injuries, while Farquhar was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast to be treated for pelvis and chest injuries.

After a succesful operation Farquhar is now in a stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
