PSNI appeal for witnesses after taxi driver fights off hijackers

Police are appealing for witnesses after two teenagers tried to hijack a taxi in West Belfast.

The incident happened on Lady Street at around 11pm last night.

One of the teens got into the passenger seat of the car and pulled the handbrake up while the other got into the back seat with a chain.

The driver was able to fight the pair off and get them out of his car before leaving the area.

One of the males is described as being 16-17 years old, approximately 5’9” tall, of slim build with short dirty fair hair.  

The second male is described as being approximately 16 years old and of slim build.

Detective Constable Sam McCallum is appealing for anyone who can help identify those involved in this incident or anyone who may be able to assist the investigation in any other way to contact Belfast Reactive and Organised Crime on the non-emergency number 101.
