A 17-year-old male has been arrested after a police officer was dragged alongside a car and injured.

The incident happened in Newtownstewart, County Tyrone, last night.

Shortly before 11am the driver of a Honda was stopped in the Mourne Park area.

When officers began to speak to the driver of the car he drove off, dragging one officer along the road before he was thrown off.

The officer sustained cuts and bruises to his body as a result of the incident.

Later in the evening officers located the car in the Old Castle Road area. They forced the car to stop before arresting a man who remains in police custody.
