A man is due to appear in court in Newry charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and attempted robbery.

The 29-year-old was arrested after a car crashed into several vehicles on the M1 on Friday.

A 35-year-old woman has previously been assaulted and bundled into a car near Hilltown, County Down.

She managed to escape from the car in Katesbridge, but the driver made off.

Later, a 4x4 was stolen in Banbridge.

It was involved in several collisions along the M1 causing major disruption.

The woman was later treated in hospital for injuries to her face and head.
