Man attacked with hammer during Belfast burglary

A man in his 30s was attacked with a hammer during a burglary in Belfast this morning.

The incident happened in the Forthriver Crescent area at around 7.30am.

The victim had been answering the door when he was struck by the hammer-wielding burglar who continued the attack inside the property.

The occupier received lacerations to his head and was taken to hospital for treatment to the injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

Detective Constable Arnott said: “We would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information that could help with our investigation to contact us at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 345 of 1/7/17.

“Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
