Man abducted before being shot in both ankles in 'punishment' shooting

The police have appealed for information following a paramilitary 'punishment' shooting in west Belfast.

The incident happened in the Jamaica Street area at around 10.00pm.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “It was reported that at 10pm as a 28 year old man was walking close to Colinmill in the Poleglass area he was abducted by three men and bundled into a white van. He was taken to Jamaica Street where he was shot once in both ankles. 

“He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident or the movements of the white van to contact Detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1517 03/05/17. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
