Former UUP councillor John Hanna has died in a car crash in County Antrim.

The accident happened at around 3.45pm yesterday afternoon (Monday).

Mr Hanna was driving in his tractor when it crashed.

He was a councillor on Banbridge council, but retired earlier this year.

Mr Hannah's wife, Joan Baird, is a councillor on the Causeway Coast and Glens Council.

UUP leader Mike Nesbitt paid tribute to Mr Hanna.

He said: "John Hanna was an exemplary public servant who always sought to put the needs of his constituents ahead of his own.

"John remained grounded in his community for whom he secured many significant funding opportunities to improve facilities and resources right across the area. I have no doubt that he will be fondly remembered for this for many years to come."
